A person has tragically died this morning after being found on the tracks at Winchester train station, British Transport Police have confirmed.
Emergency services were called to the station at 8:48am on Tuesday (March 12) following reports of a casualty on the railway line. Paramedics also attended the scene but, despite their efforts, the person was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the British Transport Police said:
“Officers were called to Winchester railway station at 8.48am today (March 12) to reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”
Train services through the station were temporarily disrupted while emergency crews responded to the incident. Normal services have since resumed.
No further details about the individual have been released at this time.
