Witnesses at the scene described a heavy police presence, with parts of Surrey Quays Road sealed off as investigators carried out forensic examinations of the area. A section of the road near Canada Street remained closed for several hours, causing significant traffic disruption and bus diversions.
One local resident told UKNIP:
“It was absolutely horrifying. Emergency crews were working desperately to help the child. The road was shut down very quickly—you could tell something very serious had happened.”
The bus driver, a woman, was spoken to at the scene and is understood to be badly shaken. There is no indication at this stage whether any arrests have been made.
Police are urging anyone with dashcam footage or eyewitness information to come forward.
