A convicted child sex offender recently released from prison has been seen in Gravesend, sparking concern among local residents.
Billy Nutt, now going by the name Dean Web, was reportedly spotted shopping in the town earlier today. The 34-year-old served a three-year prison sentence after being convicted of sexually assaulting a four-year-old boy — a crime that shocked the local community at the time.
Nutt is believed to be living in the Dartford and Gravesend area, though his precise whereabouts remain unconfirmed.
A photo of the individual, previously issued by Kent Police, has been circulating among residents as community members urge families to remain vigilant and keep children safe.
Community Concern and Safeguarding
Residents have taken to social media to warn others of the offender’s presence, with some expressing concern that his return to the area poses a risk to children. Local parents are being urged to exercise caution and to report any suspicious behaviour to authorities immediately.
One resident, who recognised the man while shopping, told reporters:
“It’s deeply disturbing to see someone like this walking freely among families. People deserve to know who’s in their community — especially when it involves child safety.”
Police Response
Kent Police have not yet issued an official public warning but confirmed that individuals released from custody under certain convictions are often subject to licence conditions, which can include restrictions on movement and contact with children, as well as monitoring by probation services.
A spokesperson for Kent Police said:
“We understand that members of the public may feel anxious upon learning of a convicted individual’s return to the community. We encourage anyone with concerns or information to contact us directly. Where appropriate, safeguarding measures are in place in line with legal frameworks.”
Public Safety Advice
Authorities have reminded the public not to take matters into their own hands, and to report any safety concerns through official channels. Anyone with information should contact Kent Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
