A serious crash during a police pursuit on the A25 Oxted Road in Godstone on the evening of Friday, March 7, has left five people injured and prompted an urgent witness appeal by Surrey Police.
The incident unfolded just after 10:15pm, when officers on routine patrol spotted a silver Kia Sedona behaving suspiciously. When they signalled for the vehicle to stop, the driver accelerated away, triggering a high-speed pursuit through the Godstone area.
Moments later, the Kia collided with another vehicle travelling along the busy A25, causing significant injuries to three people in the passing car, two of whom were seriously hurt. The two occupants of the Kia Sedona also sustained injuries, and all five individuals were rushed to hospital for treatment.
Arrest Made at the Scene
A 36-year-old man from St-Leonards-on-Sea was arrested at the scene on suspicion of a string of serious offences, including:
- Causing serious injury by dangerous driving
- Failing to stop for police
- Driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs
- Driving without a licence or insurance
- Theft of a motor vehicle
- Handling stolen goods
- Fraud by false representation
He has since been released on bail as investigations continue.
Police Appeal for Dashcam Footage and Witnesses
Surrey Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward — especially anyone who saw the silver Kia Sedona being driven erratically prior to the crash, or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage from the Godstone or A25 area on the night of the incident.

Independent Investigation Underway
As the incident occurred during a police pursuit, Surrey Police has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). The IOPC will now determine whether the actions of officers contributed to the crash and assess whether any further investigation is required.
Road Reopened After Disruption
The A25 Oxted Road, a key commuter route between Godstone and Oxted, was temporarily closed while emergency services responded to the incident and cleared the scene. The road has since been reopened, but the crash has reignited concerns about road safety and pursuit protocols across Surrey.
This marks yet another serious incident on Surrey roads this year, raising questions around dangerous driving, law enforcement tactics, and public safety.
