A Maryport couple have been sentenced for supplying cocaine and cannabis in the Workington area, following an extensive police investigation.
Court Sentences
The pair were sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court on March 3 after being convicted of multiple drug-related offences, including:
- Possession with intent to supply – Class A (Cocaine)
- Possession with intent to supply – Class B (Cannabis)
- Being concerned in the supply of Cocaine
- Being concerned in the supply of Cannabis
Shaun Rafferty, 44, of Kirkby Street, Maryport, was jailed for two years and eight months.
Chloe Rafferty, 32, of Kirkby Street, Maryport, received a 24-month suspended sentence for two years.
Police Raid Uncovers Drug Operation
On April 17, 2023, officers executed a Section 23 Misuse of Drugs Act warrant at the couple’s home in Far Moss, Workington.
During a search, police found:
- 21.5 grams of cocaine in plastic bags
- Eight street deals of cocaine
- Cannabis stored in a kitchen cupboard
- Drug paraphernalia, including scales and snap bags
- A significant amount of cash
The couple were immediately arrested, and their mobile phones seized.
Phone Evidence Reveals Drug Dealing
Forensic analysis of their phones confirmed their involvement in drug supply, revealing:
- Messages offering cocaine and cannabis for sale
- Discussions on drug prices
- Threats issued over unpaid debts
- Financial transactions correlating with drug deals
Police Warning to Drug Dealers
Detective Constable Ben Wright from Cumberland CID said:
“Drug supply is a blight on our community that must be addressed. This conviction is just one example of how anyone who chooses to supply drugs will be pursued and brought to justice.
He urged the public to report any drug-related activity in their area to police.
