Emergency services are currently tackling a large open fire in Town Road, Cliffe Woods, Rochester, with residents being urged to stay indoors and keep their windows closed due to thick smoke in the area.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene on Friday, 7 March 2025, at 16:11, following reports of a significant fire. Four fire engines and a bulk water carrier have been deployed to contain the blaze. Firefighters, equipped with breathing apparatus, are using a main jet hose to extinguish the flames.

Authorities are advising people living or travelling near the area to avoid Town Road due to heavy smoke and emergency operations. Those living nearby are encouraged to keep their windows and doors shut to prevent smoke inhalation.
A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said:
