Further details have emerged regarding the lockdown at Oakwood School in Horley earlier today after an incident involving a student and a teacher.
According to sources, the incident occurred when a Year 8 pupil from ALF allegedly punched a teacher, Mrs. Rogers, before threatening her with a knife. The school immediately followed lockdown procedures, ensuring the safety of all students and staff.
Police were called to the scene, and the student was swiftly apprehended. Authorities have confirmed that no pupils or staff were harmed, thanks to the quick actions of school staff and emergency services.
Community Reaction and School Response
Parents and students took to social media expressing concerns and confusion as the situation unfolded. Many reported receiving worried messages from students locked in classrooms.
Kevin Smith, a parent who visited the school, reassured others, stating:
“The school is in lockdown and police are in attendance. This was an issue with a student, and the lockdown was put in place because it was lunchtime, and students were outside. The student involved is with police, and there is little risk. If this was a major incident, ambulances would be on standby, and there are none.”
School administrators later sent an official email to parents confirming that the situation was under control and all students were safe.
