A man has been charged with multiple offences following a string of incidents involving property damage and attempted burglaries in Canterbury.
In the early hours of Saturday, 22 February 2025, Kent Police received several reports of suspicious activity in the Glenside Avenue area. Officers were initially alerted to a man attempting to break into a property and damaging cars parked nearby.
Shortly after, police were called to a second incident on Hudson Road, where a suspect had reportedly forced entry into a property but fled before officers arrived.
While responding to the reports in Glenside Avenue, officers observed a man trying door handles and conducted an area search. The suspect was located and arrested in a back garden on Regency Place.
Charges and Court Appearance
Malakai McCormack, 29, of no fixed address, has since been charged with the following offences:
- Burglary
- Attempted burglary
- Four counts of criminal damage
- Two counts of assault
- Possession of cocaine
McCormack appeared before Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 24 February 2025, where he was remanded into custody. He will remain in custody pending further court proceedings.
Appeal for Witnesses
Detectives are continuing their investigation and are appealing for witnesses who may have seen any suspicious activity in the Hudson Road and Military Road areas between 3:00 am and 4:30 am on Saturday, 22 February.
“We are urging anyone who may have witnessed anything out of the ordinary or who has relevant CCTV or dashcam footage from the area to come forward,” said a spokesperson from Kent Police.
