Two people have been arrested on suspicion of class A drug supply and drug driving following a proactive vehicle stop by Wiltshire Police in Chippenham on Friday night (14 February).
Suspicious Activity Leads to Police Action
Officers from the county Local Policing Tasking Team (LPTT) were alerted after receiving a call from a concerned member of the public about suspected drug dealing activity.
Following investigations, officers located and stopped a black Ford Fiesta on London Road.
Significant Drug Seizure and Arrests
The driver, an 18-year-old man, and a 20-year-old female passenger, were subjected to a search, leading to the discovery of:
- A substantial quantity of white powder, suspected to be a class A drug
- A large sum of cash
- Weighing scales
- Multiple mobile phones
A roadside drug wipe test conducted on the driver also returned positive results for cannabis and cocaine.
Police later searched both suspects’ home addresses, where additional drugs and paraphernalia were found and seized.
The suspects were arrested and taken into custody before being bailed pending further inquiries.
Police Appeal for Public Support
PC Hughes from the county LPTT highlighted the critical role of public reports in tackling drug-related crimes:
“Reports and intelligence submissions from the public are crucial. We encourage everyone to report suspicious activity of any scale so we can continue to provide an effective response.”
Wiltshire Police urge anyone with information on suspected drug activity to report it via 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
Ongoing Investigation
The investigation remains active as officers work to gather further evidence. Authorities have confirmed that more arrests could follow as part of their efforts to combat drug-related crime in the area.
