Drivers Face Severe Delays Between Sittingbourne and Faversham

A serious collision on the M2 coastbound resulted in a nine-hour road closure between Junction 5 for Sittingbourne and Junction 6 at Faversham, leaving motorists stranded for hours.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:45 PM on Sunday, February 16, causing significant disruption on one of Kent’s busiest routes.

Emergency Response and Airlifted Casualty

Emergency services, including Kent Police, paramedics, and fire crews, rushed to the scene where a vehicle had struck a barrier on the eastbound carriageway.

An air ambulance was called to airlift a female casualty to a London hospital due to serious injuries, while a male passenger was transported to a local hospital by road ambulance.

The M2 eastbound was completely shut to allow for rescue operations and vehicle recovery. One lane reopened around 8:45 PM, while the other remained closed overnight to allow for barrier repairs and oil spill cleanup.

The woman’s injuries are described as serious but not life-threatening.

Motorists faced long queues and significant delays as traffic came to a standstill for several hours.

 The London-bound carriageway also experienced heavy delays due to a separate reported collision.
