A 17-year-old boy has tragically lost his life after his car overturned at the Applegreen petrol station in New Town, Uckfield. The incident occurred at around 5pm on Friday, 14 February.

The vehicle, a grey Audi A3, was involved in the crash, but no other vehicles were affected. Despite the swift response of the public and emergency services, who performed CPR in an attempt to save him, the young driver was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A front-seat passenger, an 18-year-old man from Lewes, escaped the crash without injury.

Detective Sergeant Rosie Newman of the Sussex Police Serious Collision Investigations Unit stated: “Our enquiries to establish the exact circumstances of this tragic incident are ongoing. No other vehicles were involved. Our thoughts remain with the victim’s loved ones at this extremely difficult time.

“In the meantime, we’re asking anyone who saw what happened or captured anything on dash cam to email collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk quoting Operation Chineham.”

Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash and are urging witnesses or anyone with relevant footage to come forward to assist with their enquiries.
