Numerous passengers were evacuated from a United Airlines flight after a fire broke out in one of its engines during takeoff at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas, on Sunday morning.
The flight, United Flight 1382, was preparing to depart for New York around 8:35 a.m. when the crew reported an engine fire. The incident forced the crew to abort the takeoff, prompting immediate emergency procedures.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the crew swiftly acted to ensure the safety of all passengers aboard. Emergency slides were deployed, and some passengers evacuated through the jet bridge while others exited using the slides. Video footage from the scene shows passengers standing on the tarmac while emergency crews worked to control the situation.
The Houston Fire Department responded to the scene, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. Firefighters quickly addressed the fire, preventing any further escalation. Passengers were then safely moved away from the aircraft, and emergency response teams continued to ensure there were no lingering safety concerns.
Thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of the flight crew and emergency responders, everyone was safely evacuated without injury,” said a spokesperson from the Houston Fire Department. “We are grateful for the calm and cooperation shown by the passengers throughout this ordeal.”
United Airlines has confirmed the evacuation and issued a statement, expressing gratitude for the professionalism of the crew and emergency personnel. “The safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority, and we are fully cooperating with the authorities as they investigate the incident,” the airline stated.
At this time, the cause of the engine fire remains under investigation, and the FAA is expected to release additional details. United Airlines has assured passengers that they will be provided with support and alternative arrangements for their travel.
Passengers have also been praised for their calmness and cooperation during the evacuation, with many expressing relief that the situation did not result in any injuries.
The flight was scheduled to travel to New York, but passengers have since been rebooked on other flights. United Airlines has stated that they are prioritizing the care of affected passengers as they continue to investigate the incident.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the fire, and more details will be made available once the inquiry is complete.
