Wiltshire Police are investigating two separate incidents in Chippenham in which children were approached by men they did not know. There is no evidence to suggest that the incidents are connected, and in both cases, the children were unharmed and not detained.
In the first incident, reported on 29 January at around 3:10pm, a 12-year-old boy was approached by a man at the junction of Woodlands Road and Downing Street. The boy managed to run away from the man, who is described as mixed race, approximately 6ft tall, with a medium build, aged in his 30s. He was reportedly wearing a black hoodie, dark denim shorts, and a black face mask.
The second incident took place earlier today (30 January) at around 8:15am. A 14-year-old girl was approached by a man in a car while walking along Union Road. The man allegedly offered her a lift several times, which she declined. He is described as a middle-aged man, with a tanned complexion and thinning black hair. The man was said to be in his mid-30s, wearing rectangular glasses, a black long-sleeved t-shirt, and blue jeans.
Wiltshire Police have reassured the public that extra patrols are being carried out in the area and that officers are working closely with local schools to provide additional reassurance to parents and children.
Anyone with information regarding either incident is urged to contact Wiltshire Police on 101, quoting the relevant log number: 54250011941 (first incident) or 54250012217 (second incident).
