Three teenagers have tragically died after the car they were in collided with a tree near Wakefield on Friday evening, West Yorkshire Police have confirmed.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 8.30 pm on Bramley Lane near West Bretton, where they found that three males, including two passengers aged 19 and the 18-year-old driver, had died from the crash.
Two additional men, who were also in the vehicle, were rushed to hospital. One of them remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the other is being treated for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
The car, a black Seat Ibiza, was travelling in the direction of Wooley when it left the road and crashed into a tree.
Officers from the Major Collision Enquiry Team (MCET) are now investigating the incident. They are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the crash or the manner in which the car was being driven before the collision. Additionally, anyone who has video footage of the incident is urged to come forward.
Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle, the senior investigating officer, expressed his sorrow at the tragic loss of life. “This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the loss of three lives and a fourth person suffering critical injuries,” he said.
The police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and are asking anyone with information to contact them.
