An eight-year-old girl has been airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries following a collision between a horse and a van in Higher Treween, Altarnun, near Launceston on Sunday afternoon.
The incident, involving a white Ford Transit van, occurred at approximately 2:20 pm GMT. A 12-year-old girl, who was leading the horse at the time, escaped unharmed.
Horse Euthanized at Scene
Sadly, the horse sustained severe injuries and had to be humanely put to sleep by vets who attended the scene.
Arrest Made
Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that a 61-year-old man from Launceston has been arrested in connection with the incident. He remains in custody on suspicion of:
- Failing to stop after a road traffic collision
- Failing to report a road traffic collision
- Dangerous driving
- Driving while disqualified
Road Closure and Investigation
The road was closed to allow emergency services and investigators to examine the scene and was reopened at approximately 4:15 pm.
