Leicester police are seeking public assistance following a series of armed robberies at three stores over the past two days. Detectives believe the incidents, which occurred at two Tesco locations and a Sainsbury’s, may be linked.
The first robbery took place at the Tesco on Blaby Road, Wigston, around 11.55pm on Thursday. The second incident occurred at approximately 9.40pm on Friday at the Tesco on Ethel Road, Evington. The most recent attack happened at 9.25am on Saturday at the Sainsbury’s near Fosse Park in Enderby.
In each case, two men reportedly entered the stores separately and attempted to leave without paying for bottles of alcohol. When confronted by staff, the suspects allegedly made threats. At both Tesco locations, a handgun was reportedly used to make threats, while at Sainsbury’s, the suspects allegedly threatened staff with both a knife and a gun. The perpetrators then fled the scene with stolen alcohol.
Fortunately, no serious injuries have been reported in any of the incidents.
Detective Inspector George Fraser is leading the investigation. He stated, “These incidents are extremely concerning, and we are treating this investigation as a priority. We have a dedicated team carrying out full enquiries with support being provided to the victims involved.”
DI Fraser appealed to the public for assistance, asking anyone who may have been near the stores during the incidents to come forward with information or dashcam footage. He emphasized the importance of community cooperation in solving these crimes.
“We understand there will be concern in our communities following these incidents,” DI Fraser added. “Please be assured we are working to find those responsible as quickly as possible.”
