A man has pleaded guilty to breaking into a pharmacy in Sittingbourne, resulting in the theft of prescription medication and a commercial vehicle.
The burglary took place overnight between Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September 2024. During the incident, a quantity of prescription medication was stolen, along with a vehicle belonging to the pharmacy.
Officers were alerted to the break-in on Monday 30 September, and subsequent investigations led them to two properties—one in Gillingham and another in Sittingbourne. During searches of both addresses, police recovered prescription medication and other suspected stolen items. A man was arrested at one of the properties, and a woman, known to him, was arrested at the second property.
The stolen vehicle had already been found after police received a report at 3:11 am on Sunday 29 September. The report indicated that a man had been acting suspiciously near the car on Cowper Road, Gillingham.
George Bignall, 45, of Middletune Avenue, Sittingbourne, has been charged with several offences, including burglary, taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, and driving while disqualified. He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 2 October, where he admitted to the charges. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday 31 December.
A 44-year-old woman from Gillingham was also arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods. She has since been released on bail until Saturday 28 December.
