Hollywood actor and former professional footballer Vinnie Jones is trading his tough guy image for a spot on the West End stage, making his debut in the hit musical Only Fools and Horses. Known for his roles in films like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Mean Machine, and Netflix’s The Gentlemen, Jones is famous for playing “hardman” characters. Now, he’s stepping into the iconic role of Danny Driscoll in the beloved musical adaptation of the classic British TV show.
Jones will star alongside comedian Paul Whitehouse, who plays Grandad, and a talented cast including Sam Lupton, Tom Major, Georgina Hagen, and Craig Berry. The actor is excited to join the ensemble, revealing: “I’ve always been a fan of Only Fools and Horses, and when my longtime friend Phil McIntyre called me up and said he was interested in me playing the role of Danny Driscoll, I told him to count me in. The director CJay Ranger and her creative team are great, and I’m excited to contribute to the legacy of the show.”
Vinnie Jones’ performances will take place in London throughout December and into early January, before he exits the production as it heads out on a nationwide tour. The show will kick off in Bromley in September before visiting over 30 towns and cities across the UK, culminating in Dublin in June 2025.
The musical Only Fools and Horses, based on John Sullivan’s legendary TV series, features an original script and score written by John’s son, Jim Sullivan, and Paul Whitehouse. Directed by Caroline Jay Ranger, the production has been met with critical acclaim since its West End debut.
The show follows the classic characters from the TV series, with Del Boy on a quest for love, Rodney preparing to tie the knot, and Grandad finally ready to tackle his long-standing health issues. Fans can expect plenty of laughs, nostalgia, and the memorable antics that made the show a cultural phenomenon.
