Man Jailed for Life in Birmingham Firearms Plot

A 22-year-old man involved in a plot to kill a man in Birmingham using a submachine gun has been sentenced to life in prison. Sujeel Amjad, from Alum Rock, played a key role in planning a terrifying firearms attack that nearly claimed a life after a house and a car were shot at in a string of violent incidents.

Amjad was convicted of attempted murder and arson after the second shooting, which took place on December 3. Evidence recovered from his phone included images of him holding two guns, as well as a picture of a Skorpion sub-machine gun, believed to be the same weapon used in the attack.

During sentencing at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday, September 20, Amjad was handed a life sentence and told he would serve a minimum of 20 years in prison.

A second man, who is believed to have fired the shots during the attack, has fled the country and remains at large. Police are working with international partners to track him down.

West Midlands Police have expressed relief that Amjad has been brought to justice, but their efforts to locate the second suspect remain ongoing. This case highlights the significant dangers posed by firearms and the commitment of law enforcement to tackle gun crime in the region.
