A field fire in Sittingbourne, which prompted warnings for local residents to keep windows and doors closed due to heavy smoke, has been extinguished. The fire occurred in the Wrens Road area of Bredgar, where a large amount of straw caught fire, sending smoke across nearby areas, including the M2 motorway between Junctions 5 and 6.
Firefighters responded to the incident with one fire engine and worked through the evening to put out the flames. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
As of midnight on 14 September, the earlier advice for local residents to keep windows and doors closed has been lifted. Authorities are encouraging people in the area to share this update with loved ones who may not have access to the internet.
Motorists were warned about visibility concerns on the M2 during the incident due to smoke blowing across the motorway. The situation has since been resolved, and traffic has resumed as normal.
