In a concerning trend, two young children in South Yorkshire have required hospital treatment following separate dog attacks in recent days.

On September 4, just before 5:30 pm, police responded to reports of a 4-year-old girl being attacked by two loose XL Bully dogs while playing at a park in Sheffield. The young girl sustained injuries to her body, though they are not believed to be life-threatening. The two dogs were seized from a nearby property and are now in police custody.

Just days later, on September 6 at around 4:00 pm, a 2-year-old boy was bitten multiple times by a neighbour’s dog, identified as a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, while sitting on his mother’s lap. The boy was hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries. The dog has since been euthanised following the incident.

Chief Inspector Jonathan Greaves of South Yorkshire Police stated, “We are continuing to see unprecedented demand from dangerous dogs across South Yorkshire. We’re urging all dog owners to play their part in keeping everyone safe.”

Greaves also highlighted that dog owners bear full responsibility for their pets’ actions and could face serious legal consequences if their dogs attack others. He urged all dog owners to understand their pets’ behaviour and take precautions if needed.

These two recent attacks underscore the growing concern around out-of-control dogs. Local authorities report receiving around five dangerous dog complaints each day, and efforts are being made to address the issue and enhance public safety.
