Recent break-ins have occurred overnight, with one South Bents resident discovering their vehicle had been accessed despite it being securely locked. The perpetrator rifled through the glove compartment and various other areas of the car, stealing loose change, a bottle of aftershave, and a soft drink. Strikingly, there was no visible damage to the vehicle, leading police to believe the criminals may be using advanced tools to unlock the doors remotely.
This incident follows similar reports from Fulwell and Roker, where masked individuals have been seen attempting to access both cars and homes. The crime wave has raised significant concerns among the local community, with many worried about the growing trend of street-level criminal activity targeting both vehicles and residences.
Police have not yet confirmed any links between the incidents in South Bents and the earlier criminal activity reported in Fulwell and Roker. However, the modus operandi—including the lack of forced entry—suggests the potential involvement of a coordinated and organised group.
