Two suspects have been arrested following a shocking incident that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, August 28, 2024, in York’s city centre. The incident took place between 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. in the Piccadilly and North Street areas.
Detective Chief Inspector Shaun Page commented on the situation, stating, “This is a shocking incident, and I understand it will have caused significant concern in the local community. Two suspects have now been arrested, and our enquiries are ongoing, so I would urge anyone who has information that could assist us to get in touch.
In response to the incident, officers from York’s Neighbourhood Policing Team will be on patrol in the city centre today and throughout the weekend. Their presence aims to provide extra reassurance to members of the public during this time of heightened concern.
