A large-scale manhunt is currently underway in Kenya after a man accused of murdering 42 women managed to escape from a police station in Nairobi. The suspect, 33-year-old Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, had been in police custody following his arrest on July 15th, when authorities described him as a “vampire” and a “psychopathic serial killer.
Khalusha reportedly confessed to the murders, which came to light after dismembered female bodies were discovered in an abandoned quarry in Nairobi’s Mukuru slum. The gruesome nature of the crimes shocked the nation and led to widespread calls for justice.
According to police spokeswoman Resila Onyango, Khalusha escaped from his cell on Tuesday morning along with 12 undocumented Eritrean migrants who were also being held at the station. Their escape was only discovered when officers went to serve breakfast to the detainees.
On opening the cell door, they found that 13 prisoners had escaped by cutting the wire mesh in the basking bay,” Onyango explained, referring to the area where detainees are allowed fresh air.
The circumstances of the escape have raised serious concerns about security measures at the police station, and an internal investigation is expected to follow.
Khalusha’s escape has prompted widespread fear and anxiety, with authorities warning the public to remain vigilant. Police have launched a massive search operation across Nairobi and the surrounding areas to recapture the suspect.
The story of Khalusha’s alleged crimes and his subsequent escape has gripped Kenya, with citizens anxiously awaiting updates on the manhunt. Authorities are urging anyone with information on the whereabouts of Khalusha or the other escapees to come forward immediately.
As the search intensifies, police are coordinating efforts with various security agencies to track down the suspect, who is considered extremely dangerous.
