Detectives investigating a fatal fire in Dagenham, which is being treated as a murder, have named the victim as Robert Price, 76.
Robert Price sadly died following a fire at a residential property on Oval Road North, Dagenham, on Saturday, July 27. Emergency services, including officers from the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade, attended the scene shortly after 17:40 hrs.
Firefighters forced entry into the property, where Robert’s body was found. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination held on Monday, July 29, determined the cause of death as inhalation of fire fumes and burns.
Robert’s family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers. They have requested privacy during this difficult time.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but is being treated as suspicious. A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder and arson with intent to endanger life. He appeared in custody at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, July 31, and has been remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear next at the Old Bailey on Friday, August 2.
Police continue to appeal for witnesses and information regarding this incident. Drivers passing through the area at that time who may have captured footage on dash cams are also encouraged to contact the police.
