A suspect has appeared in court following a serious assault in Maidstone town centre. The incident occurred at approximately 3.40am on Sunday, 28 July 2024. The victim, a man in his 20s, was walking down Gabriel’s Hill into Lower Stone Street with a friend when he was approached by an unknown man.
The man spoke briefly to the victim before allegedly striking him on the side of the head. The victim, realizing he had suffered two lacerations to his neck, ran from the scene and later sought medical attention at a hospital.
Officers arrested a man in Week Street about an hour later. While in custody, it is further alleged that the suspect assaulted two police officers and spat in a cell van.
Stephen Fraser, 40, of Beckenham Road, Beckenham, Greater London, was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, assault on an emergency worker, and criminal damage. Fraser appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 29 July. He has been remanded in custody until his next hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on 27 August.
