A significant emergency operation is underway in Bath city centre following reports of a possible chemical attack. The incident commenced around 2.30 PM today when a woman reportedly approached pedestrians in Stall Street with a suspicious bag, causing several individuals to fall ill.

Emergency responders were alerted to the situation by the South Western Ambulance Service at 3.08 PM. Local sources have noted an overwhelming response, with more than 20 emergency vehicles at the scene, including 14 ambulances.

Avon and Somerset Police are coordinating with the ambulance service and Avon Fire and Rescue Service to manage the situation. Authorities have yet to confirm the nature of the substances involved but have taken extensive precautions, with emergency personnel donning protective clothing as they investigate the scene.

The police stated, “At about 2.30 PM, a woman approached people with a bag in Stall Street, leading to some individuals then feeling unwell. The ambulance service made us aware at 3.08 PM. We’re not aware of any further reports of people feeling unwell.”

The area around Stall Street has been cordoned off as the investigation continues. The emergency services have reassured the public that they have well-rehearsed plans for dealing with such incidents, emphasizing the precautionary measures taken to ensure public safety.
