Murder Investigation Underway After Elderly Man Found Dead in River Don

South Yorkshire Police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of an 82-year-old man’s body in the River Don, Mexborough, Doncaster, earlier today. Authorities were alerted to the situation at 7:36 AM, and the elderly man was pronounced dead at the scene by responding ambulance services.

The investigation took a serious turn as police detained two men, aged 30 and 32, on suspicions of murder. Both suspects are currently being held in custody as the investigation progresses.

A section of the riverbank has been cordoned off to facilitate a thorough examination by forensic teams. Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward, overseeing the case, stated, “We are now treating this as a murder investigation. Our detectives are diligently working to piece together the events that led to this tragic incident.
