A community in Gillingham remains on edge following a brutal stabbing incident that left a uniformed soldier in serious condition. The attack, which occurred near Brompton Barracks in Sally Port Gardens, has led to an extensive police operation in the area.
The 24-year-old suspect was apprehended by armed police on a red moped approximately two miles from the scene, in Mooring Road, Rochester. The man remains in custody on suspicion of attempted murder, with authorities having also seized several knives linked to the incident.

The soldier, in his 40s, sustained multiple stab wounds and is currently receiving medical care at a local hospital, where his condition is described as serious but stable.
The shocking event was acknowledged by Sir Keir Starmer during his first Prime Minister’s Questions, where he expressed his shock and extended his thoughts to the victim and his family, as well as to the Armed Forces.
The incident has prompted a massive response from law enforcement, including forensics and additional police forces, to ensure community safety and to further investigate the circumstances surrounding the violent act.
As the investigation continues, a strong police presence is expected to remain in the area to provide reassurance to the public and facilitate the ongoing inquiry.
