Residents of Powhatan County are being asked to stay in their homes this Thursday afternoon as authorities pursue an armed and dangerous felon.
As of 3:46 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, the Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office has instructed residents to remain in their homes until further notice due to “law enforcement activity” in the area of 4900 Cartersville Road. The Goochland County Sheriff’s Office has similarly asked residents of the Rock Castle/West View area of Goochland to shelter in place.
At 4:08 p.m., the Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office provided an update on the situation. According to the release, 36-year-old Chazz Lee Gordon of Powhatan fled a felony traffic stop, leading to a chase that ended in the 4900 block of Cartersville Road. Gordon reportedly fled his vehicle with a pistol in hand and ran into a wooded area. Law enforcement from multiple jurisdictions, including Chesterfield County, are actively searching for him.Gordon is wanted for malicious wounding, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and brandishing a firearm. He is described as a 6’2” Black man weighing about 175 lbs, and was last seen wearing a tank top and grey pants.
