A shocking family tragedy has come to a grim resolution as Virginia McCullough, aged 36, admitted to the murder of her elderly parents four years after the crime was committed. The brutal act, detailed in recent findings, revealed a disturbing narrative of deception that lasted years.
The grim history surfaced when Virginia McCullough confessed last week to having killed her parents, John McCullough, 70, and Lois McCullough, 71, in the summer of 2019. The couple was found deceased at their home in the quiet residential area of Pump Hill, Great Baddow, where all seemed normal until recently.
McCullough, who lived at the same address, managed to conceal the deaths from family, friends, and the community by fabricating stories about her parents’ absence, claiming they were either ill, on vacation, or on extended travel. The ruse continued until the couple’s general practitioners expressed concern over repeated missed medical appointments earlier this year.
In response to the doctors’ concerns, law enforcement officers from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate initiated an investigation. Upon executing a search warrant on September 15, officers did not expect a confession, which McCullough promptly delivered. She chillingly recounted how she poisoned her father with prescription medication and then fatally stabbed her mother.
The case swiftly moved through the legal system, with McCullough pleading guilty to two counts of murder on July 4 at the Chelmsford Crown Court. She awaits sentencing scheduled for October 10.
