A woman has been arrested in connection with a disturbing video circulating on social media. The video allegedly shows a prison staff member engaging in sexual activity with an inmate inside HMP Wandsworth, a Category B men’s prison in southwest London.
Scotland Yard launched an investigation after officers were alerted to the video, which was reportedly filmed within the prison premises. The woman was taken into police custody on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police stated, “Enquiries continue, and we are maintaining close communication with the Ministry of Justice.” Meanwhile, the Prison Service emphasised its zero-tolerance policy toward staff corruption. The former prison officer featured in the video has been reported to the police.
The incident comes amid ongoing concerns about conditions at HMP Wandsworth. Just last month, a watchdog called for emergency measures following an inspection that revealed severe overcrowding, vermin infestations, drug-related issues, violence, and rising self-harm rates. Seven prisoners have tragically taken their own lives in the past year.
Chief Inspector of Prisons Charlie Taylor urgently notified the justice secretary about the situation, highlighting the need for immediate improvements. Daniel Khalife, who allegedly escaped from the prison, remains a focal point of the investigation.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are grappling with the serious implications of the video and the broader challenges faced by the prison system.
