In a rare national statement, Queen Camilla hailed the servicemen and women as a “source of inspiration, reassurance, and pride” for the nation. Her video message, released to mark Armed Forces Day, expressed gratitude for the efforts of the military in safeguarding the UK and defending liberties beyond its shores.
Camilla, who described herself as the “proud daughter of an Army officer,” wore her Royal Lancers brooch—a tribute to her late father’s regiment and the military unit she serves as Colonel in Chief. The Queen’s personal association with the Armed Forces underscores their significance in national life.
The occasion also saw the release of a new photograph of King Charles in military uniform. Armed Forces Day, observed annually on the last Saturday of June, serves as a platform for the country to show support for veterans, service families, cadets, and active-duty personnel.
In her heartfelt message, Queen Camilla thanked the men and women of the Armed Forces for their dedication in protecting the nation. She also honoured those who made the “ultimate sacrifice” in pursuit of world peace.
Reflecting on the 80th anniversary of the Second World War D-Day landings, where the King and Queen joined world leaders on the beaches of Normandy, Camilla praised the “incredible bravery” of the forces that liberated Europe from Hitler’s regime.
“Eight decades later,” she emphasised, “the same spirit and qualities remain evident throughout our Armed Forces. Your determination, unrelenting efforts, and selfless loyalty not only protect our Isles but also defend liberties far beyond our shores. Your service is as enduring as our gratitude.”
