In a daring act of eco-protest, two individuals associated with the Just Stop Oil movement were arrested after they spray-painted several private jets orange at an airfield near Stansted Airport. The airfield is allegedly where Taylor Swift’s private jet had landed just hours before.
The eco-protesters, demanding an “emergency treaty” to phase out fossil fuel usage by 2030, targeted the private aviation area of the airfield. Essex Police swiftly apprehended the protesters, suspending runway operations as a precaution. Fortunately, no flights were disrupted, and the airport resumed normal operations shortly thereafter.
The incident highlights the growing urgency around climate change and the need for decisive action. Just Stop Oil has warned of further demonstrations, vowing to target areas of “key importance to the fossil fuel economy” worldwide this summer unless leaders take meaningful steps to protect the environment.
Essex Police confirmed that two planes were damaged during the protest, emphasising the delicate balance between activism and safety at such facilities.
