In an unprecedented display of skill and speed, Toprak Razgatlioglu from the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team clinched a historic hat-trick in the fourth round of the 2024 FIM Superbike World Championship. The Turkish rider’s flawless performance aboard his BMW M 1000 RR at Misano saw him sweep all three races, catapulting him to the top of the world championship leaderboard with a 21-point lead.
Razgatlioglu’s weekend began with a bang as he shattered the track record to claim pole position during Saturday’s Superpole qualification. Despite briefly losing the lead in race one, he quickly regained his position and secured a comfortable victory with a 1.8-second margin. This win not only marked his sixth of the season but also propelled him to the forefront of the riders’ championship.
Sunday’s races mirrored Razgatlioglu’s dominance, with minor setbacks at the start quickly rectified as he charged to the front. His strategic prowess was on full display in the second main race, where he overcame an initial fifth-place drop to reclaim and extend his lead, ultimately cruising to his third triumph of the weekend.
While teammate Michael van der Mark showed promise, a crash in Superpole and a technical issue in race two marred his chances. Similarly, Garrett Gerloff of Bonovo action BMW Racing Team faced misfortune with crashes in both Superpole and race two. Scott Redding managed a commendable comeback in race two, finishing in 12th place after starting from 20th.
Marc Bongers, Sporting Director at BMW Motorrad Motorsport, expressed his delight over Razgatlioglu’s performance and acknowledged it as a monumental achievement for the team and the brand.
The WorldSBK circus now moves to Donington Park for the fifth round from July 12th-14th, where Razgatlioglu will aim to defend his newly acquired championship lead.
