Joshua Chambers, a 40-year-old repeat shoplifter, has been sentenced to three months in jail after stealing 12 Cadbury Easter eggs from the Asda store in Bexleyheath.

Chambers committed the theft on March 12 at the Crook Log shop. He also carried out thefts from the Co-op on Pickford Lane on February 28 and March 9.

Appearing at Bexley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (June 12), Chambers pleaded guilty to three counts of theft from a shop.

History of Theft

This is not the first time Chambers has faced imprisonment for shoplifting. In September 2019, he was sentenced to 16 weeks in jail for thefts in Sidcup and Welling. During that incident, a police officer on patrol on Bellegrove Road noticed Chambers being chased by Tesco staff. Upon searching Chambers, the officer discovered five boxes of Ferrero Rocher chocolates in his possession.

Between February and July 2019, Chambers stole nearly £1,000 worth of wine and chocolate from The Co-op at The Oval and the Co-op in Blendon Road.

Sentencing and Community Impact

Chambers’ repeated offences highlight the ongoing issue of shoplifting in the community, which affects local businesses and residents alike. His sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of persistent criminal behaviour.

Police Statement

A spokesperson for the local police department said: “Shoplifting is a serious offence that impacts businesses and the community. We are committed to addressing these crimes and ensuring that repeat offenders are held accountable for their actions.”

The community hopes that this latest sentence will deter future thefts and contribute to a safer environment for local businesses and residents.
