In a landmark case, Nigel Jackson, a 57-year-old resident of William Street in Long Eaton, has been handed a 27-year prison sentence for a series of heinous crimes committed over a span of 16 years. The charges against him included child sex offences and rape, leaving a community in shock and a victim scarred for life.
The investigation, which began in February 2019, culminated in Jackson’s conviction on 17 counts of criminal activity. These offences occurred between 2003 and 2019, with some taking place in Derbyshire. The victim, who was as young as 11 when the abuse began, demonstrated immense courage in coming forward and cooperating throughout the legal process.
Detective Sergeant Ryan McVeigh, who led the investigation, expressed his admiration for the victim’s bravery. He stated, “It’s difficult to even begin to understand the suffering that Jackson has caused her.” McVeigh emphasised that no one should endure such trauma and hoped that the sentencing would provide some solace to the survivor.
