Detective Constable (DC) Mohamed Hassen, from the Met Police has been dismissed from duty following a four-day misconduct hearing. The hearing, which took place from Monday, June 3 to Thursday, June 6, found that DC Hassen had breached professional behaviour standards in several areas.
The independent panel, led by a legally qualified chair, determined that DC Hassen violated the following standards:
- Authority, Respect, and Courtesy
- Equality and Diversity
- Discreditable Conduct
Between October 25, 2021, and June 12, 2022, DC Hassen made inappropriate, offensive, and sexual comments directed at two female colleagues. The Metropolitan Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards initiated an investigation after receiving complaints in November 2022.
Chief Superintendent Sara Leach, responsible for policing in northwest London, expressed her stance on the matter:
“No one should come to work and be subjected to the kind of language used by this officer. Everyone has the right to be treated with dignity and respect in the workplace, and it is clear that DC Hassen failed to uphold this basic standard. His dismissal is a necessary step to hold him accountable for his actions.”
As a result of his dismissal, DC Hassen will be added to the Barred List maintained by the College of Policing. Individuals on this list are ineligible for employment by police forces, local policing bodies (PCCs), the Independent Office for Police Conduct, or His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services.
