The family of Tom Parry, 49, and his 12-year-old son Richie, who tragically died after going missing during a hillwalking trip in Glencoe, have paid tribute to their beloved father and son.
Tom and Richie, from Cheshire, had embarked on a hiking excursion in the Scottish Highlands on Tuesday but failed to return home as scheduled on Wednesday. Their bodies were discovered by rescuers on Stob Coire Nan Lochan in Glencoe on Wednesday evening.

In a heartfelt statement released through the police, Tom’s wife Gemma described him as a “caring and loving father” and husband, while Richie was remembered as an “energetic, loving boy” who cherished quizzes, maths, and sports. The family expressed their gratitude to the Scottish and Cheshire police, mountain rescue services, and the broader community for their support during this challenging time.

Inspector Katy Duncan extended sympathies to the Parry family and thanked all involved in the search efforts. Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team, among others, assisted in the operation.
The father and son were experienced hillwalkers, according to Glencoe Mountain Rescue, who expressed deep sadness over the outcome.
Friends and colleagues also mourned the loss of Tom and Richie. Bart Seaton-Said, a childhood friend of Tom’s, fondly remembered their shared experiences growing up in Ipswich, highlighting Tom’s heroic and sensitive nature. Nigel Howle, a former colleague, described Tom as kind and knowledgeable in his field of market research.
The tragic incident has deeply affected the community, reminding all of the inherent risks associated with outdoor activities. As the Parry family grieves their loss, they are comforted by the outpouring of support from loved ones and strangers alike. Tom and Richie will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal as investigations into the incident continue.
