A2 Closed Between Wrotham Road, Gravesend to M2 at Halfpence Lane, Cobham After Serious Collision

An air ambulance has been summoned to a crash on the A2, resulting in the closure of a stretch of the road in both directions. The closure spans from A227 Wrotham Road in Gravesend to the M2 Halfpence Lane in Cobham, allowing the ambulance to land on the London-bound carriageway.

Emergency services were alerted around 4:15 PM following what authorities have termed “a serious collision” on the coastbound side of the road. Reports indicate that a lorry and a van were involved in the crash, with one vehicle catching fire as a result.

While the London-bound side has since reopened, the coastbound carriageway remains closed, prompting traffic delays and diversions. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes if possible to avoid congestion, which is building back to Bean in the coastbound direction.

Congestion is also observed in the surrounding areas of Higham, Gravesend, and Greenhithe. National Highways has issued guidance for drivers, suggesting a diversion route via solid circle signs.

According to the diversion route, drivers should exit the A2 at Marling Cross into the coastbound lane of Heaver Court Road via a roundabout at the top of the exit slip. From there, they should proceed to Valley Drive, then onto B261 Old Road East towards The Lion roundabout, eventually reaching the A226 eastbound towards Rochester and the junction with the A289.

Further information from the emergency services regarding the incident is awaited as investigations continue into the cause of the collision.
