A Royal Caribbean passenger has tragically died after jumping from the world’s largest cruise ship, the Icon of the Seas. The unidentified man jumped over 80 feet from the colossal vessel shortly after it departed from Florida on Sunday, embarking on the first night of a week-long trip to Honduras.
The ship’s crew immediately notified the U.S. Coast Guard and launched a search and rescue operation. Our Care Team is actively providing support and assistance to the guest’s loved ones during this difficult time. For the privacy of the guest and their family, we have no additional details to share,” Royal Caribbean said in a statement.
The man was in critical condition when brought back to the ship but was later declared dead. The vessel was stopped for about two hours while the crew assisted with the search and rescue mission.
The ship was approximately 300 miles from PortMiami when the man jumped, according to CruiseHive. The cruise ship deployed one of their rescue boats, located the man, and brought him back aboard,” the US Coast Guard said “He was pronounced deceased. Beyond assisting in the search, the US Coast Guard did not have much involvement in this incident.”
Passengers shared images of the rescue on social media as the search continued, with some initially saying he had been found alive. The man was in critical condition when brought back to the ship but was later declared dead.
