Media reports have confirmed that Slovakia’s populist Prime Minister, Robert Fico, sustained injuries in a shooting incident and was promptly taken to the hospital. The event unfolded in the town of Handlova, approximately 150 kilometers northeast of the capital, as reported by the news television station TA3123.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Lubos Blaha, verified the occurrence during a parliamentary session and subsequently adjourned the proceedings until further notice, according to the Slovak TASR news agency.

The incident transpired in front of the local House of Culture, where Prime Minister Fico had been meeting with supporters. Police swiftly cordoned off the area, securing the scene.

A reporter from the daily newspaper Dennik N witnessed the shooting and observed rescuers transporting the premier to a waiting vehicle.
