A tragic incident on the A2 this morning has resulted in the death of a motorcyclist near Wilmington. The London-bound carriageway, just before the Dartford Heath junction, remains closed as authorities conduct investigations into the crash.
Emergency services rushed to the scene following reports of a collision involving a grey BMW motorcycle and a black Kawasaki motorcycle around 8 am. Tragically, despite efforts to save him, a man in his 30s succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His next of kin have been notified of the devastating loss.
Another individual involved in the crash sustained serious injuries and has been transported to a London hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Witnesses at the scene described a significant emergency response, with multiple police cars, fire engines, and ambulances attending. The air ambulance was also observed circling overhead, underscoring the severity of the situation.
The incident has caused extensive traffic congestion, with long tailbacks stretching from the M25 at the Darenth Interchange to the A2018 Old Bexley Lane at Dartford Heath. National Highways officers are on-site providing assistance, and while efforts are underway to clear the backlog, motorists are urged to remain patient and await instructions from authorities.
In response to inquiries about the duration of the road closure, National Highways emphasised the gravity of the incident, indicating uncertainty regarding the reopening timeline.

A motorcyclist died following the collision, which happened on the Londonbound carriageway of the A2 just before the junction for Dartford Heath, at around 8.08am on Friday 10 May 2024.
The incident involved a grey BMW motorcycle and a black Kawasaki motorcycle. Police and ambulance crews attended, and a man aged in his 30s was confirmed deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
A second man was taken to a London hospital with serious injuries.
