The Osborne View, a popular seaside pub in Hill Head, is set to be rebuilt following a devastating fire that tore through the establishment on February 22. Matt Kearsey, Managing Director of Hall and Woodhouse, the company that owns the pub, has expressed a strong commitment to restoring the beloved venue.
The fire, which was later traced to an electrical fault in a tumble dryer, caused flames to soar up to 10 feet high with temperatures reaching a scorching 330°C. The intensity of the blaze resulted in the complete loss of the building, prompting an immediate response from local firefighters who had to source water from the nearby Solent to control the flames.
In the aftermath, the staff members who lived above the pub were relocated to hotels, and the site has since seen regular visits from contractors to ensure ongoing safety and security.
Kearsey has reassured the community and patrons of the Osborne View, stating, “Hall and Woodhouse is committed to rebuilding The Osborne View Hotel to return it to our valued guests.” He added that while the timelines for the redevelopment are still being finalized, the company is making steady progress in its plans to bring the pub back to its former state and role within the Fareham community.
Details on the reconstruction will be provided as they become available. Kearsey thanked the local community for their patience and understanding during the rebuilding process. He also reiterated the company’s commitment to providing continued support, both practical and emotional, to those affected by the tragic incident.
The Osborne View has long been a cherished spot for both locals and visitors, known for its scenic views and vibrant atmosphere. The community eagerly awaits its return, hopeful for the future of their much-loved seaside gathering place.
