A Coventry man has been sentenced to jail time after violently assaulting his elderly neighbour earlier this year.
Samir Soloman, 46, was convicted for slapping his 80-year-old neighbour in Cambridge Street back in January. The incident occurred when Soloman, without provocation, walked out of his house and hurled an egg at the woman’s residence.
When the elderly woman confronted Soloman at his front door regarding his behaviour, he responded by viciously slapping her across the face. The force of the assault caused the victim to fall to the ground, resulting in a broken hip.
Promptly responding to the scene, officers from the local police force were called and Soloman was arrested shortly afterwards. He was remanded in custody while the investigation into the incident unfolded.
During police interviews, Soloman remained silent, offering no explanation for his actions. Later, he attempted to refute the accusations against him, falsely claiming that he had merely shut the door on the woman instead of physically attacking her.
However, surveillance footage captured by CCTV cameras contradicted Soloman’s version of events, clearly showing him engaging in the assault. Consequently, he was charged with wounding on January 19, just two days after the attack occurred.
Appearing before Warwick Crown Court on May 2, Soloman pleaded guilty to the assault charges. As a result, he was handed a 16-month jail sentence for his reprehensible actions.
