Residents in St Leonards-on-Sea and surrounding areas are gradually seeing water supply return this morning, following a disruption that affected more than 20,000 properties. While progress has been made, there are still some areas experiencing ongoing issues.

Southern Water confirmed that yesterday and into this morning, supplies should have been restored to over 20,000 properties in St Leonards-on-Sea, Hastings, and areas north of Hastings. However, certain pockets are still facing water shortages or intermittent supply.

To address the remaining challenges, a fleet of tankers has been deployed to support affected properties by injecting water into the network. Southern Water aims to provide detailed information on the areas being assisted by tankers.

Areas currently affected include parts of central Hastings, such as the Belmont area, Forest Way, and Newgate South, as well as the St Helen’s area of Hastings, including St Helen’s Wood. Additionally, residents living west of Fairlight and north of Hollington near The Ridge and Queensway are impacted.

Efforts are underway to restore supply to these areas by today, with further updates and timelines to be communicated.

As water returns to homes and businesses, customers may notice temporary cloudiness or discoloration. This is typically caused by harmless air bubbles or iron deposits in the pipes. Running the kitchen tap until the water runs clear usually resolves these issues.

Southern Water extends apologies for the disruption caused, particularly over the bank holiday weekend, and assures customers of ongoing updates through their website and social media channels.

Bottled water stations are operational from 8 am to 9 pm, and delivery of bottled water continues for customers on the Priority Services Register until everyone’s supply is confirmed to be restored.
