In a distressing case of sexual violence that shook the local community, Yusef Ibrahim, aged 21, has been sentenced to six years imprisonment for raping a woman at a Brighton nightclub. The attack occurred in the toilets of the club located on Kings Road during the early hours of 24 September 2021.

The incident was promptly reported to the police by nightclub staff after the victim, a woman in her 20s, alerted security. She was then moved to a place of safety while the suspect was detained. CCTV footage from the venue confirmed the victim and Ibrahim entering the toilets together, with the victim appearing visibly distressed when she exited.

Following a thorough investigation and trial at Chichester Crown Court, Ibrahim was found guilty on 18 March of rape, assault by penetration, and sexual assault. On 30 April, the court delivered Ibrahim’s sentence, also mandating his registration on the sex offenders register for life.

The victim received specialised support from Police officers throughout the ordeal. This case highlights the ongoing issues of sexual violence in nightlife settings and the critical role of prompt reporting and intervention by venue staff and law enforcement.

Detective Constable Elaine Welsh said: “This woman was simply trying to enjoy a night out when she was attacked most horrifically.

“Ibrahim may now be behind bars, but this young woman must live with the effects of his crimes for the rest of her life. Despite her trauma, she has shown immense strength and bravery throughout this process.

“I would like to thank her for supporting this investigation and helping us to bring Ibrahim to justice, where he can’t harm any other women.

“The quick-thinking of the victim, her friends and security staff must also be commended, swiftly bringing Ibrahim into custody.
