A disturbing incident in Chatham has led to a court appearance for a suspected robber following an assault on an 89-year-old man.
The distressing event unfolded in Chatham town centre at approximately 4:30 pm on Friday, April 12, 2024, when the elderly victim reported that his phone had been stolen. The incident, which left the pensioner shaken, prompted swift action from local law enforcement agencies.
A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of a woman later that same day. In addition to apprehending the suspect, officers seized a quantity of cannabis and crack cocaine, adding to the gravity of the situation.
Pamela Jardine, a 41-year-old resident of Luton Road, Chatham, faced a barrage of charges in connection with the incident. She was formally charged with robbery, possession of crack cocaine, and possession of cannabis.
Furthermore, Ms. Jardine faced additional charges relating to a separate incident that occurred inside a Chatham shop on the same day as her arrest. These charges included theft, racially aggravated assault, and assault by beating.
Appearing before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday, April 15, Ms. Jardine was remanded in custody pending a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court scheduled for Monday, May 13.
