Two individuals have been charged in connection with the theft of lead and subsequent damage to a school roof in Medway. The incident occurred on Friday, October 27, 2023, at a school located on Luton Road in Chatham.
Local residents alerted patrols after hearing suspicious noises emanating from the school building. Prompt response by Police, including the deployment of a police helicopter, led to the apprehension of two suspects at the scene. Subsequently, both individuals were released on bail pending further investigation.
Repair works conducted on the school roof following the incident revealed substantial damage to tiles and lead, with repair costs totalling over £6,300.
On Saturday, April 13, 2024, Tyla Hughes, residing at Castle Well Drive, Salisbury, Wiltshire, and Jordan Day, residing at Chipstead Road, Gillingham, were formally charged with theft and criminal damage. Mr. Hughes, aged 22, and Mr. Day, aged 21, were both released on bail and are scheduled to appear before Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Friday, June 21.
The charges reflect the seriousness with which authorities are addressing such offences, underscoring the importance of protecting educational institutions and ensuring the safety and security of school premises.
