A serious road traffic collision involving two cars and a lorry has resulted in the closure of the clockwise carriageway of the M25 motorway in Surrey, causing significant disruption to traffic in the area.
The incident, which occurred between Junction 5 (A21, Chipstead) and Junction 6 (Godstone), has prompted the closure of the affected stretch of the motorway as emergency services, including Surrey Police, rush to the scene to attend to the situation.
National Highways Traffic Officers are also on-site, working diligently to manage traffic flow and assist motorists affected by the closure.
As a result of the collision, motorists travelling clockwise on the M25 are advised to expect long delays of up to 30 minutes. To ease congestion and facilitate diversion, drivers are urged to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbol and adhere to the recommended alternative route.
The diversion route entails exiting the M25 at Junction 5 onto the A21, then proceeding to take the second exit onto the A25 towards Westerham. From there, drivers should follow the A25 through Sundridge, Brasted, Westerham, Limpsfield, and Oxted, eventually continuing along the A25 towards Godstone until reaching the A25/A22 roundabout. At the roundabout, take the third exit onto the A22 towards London, leading to M25 Junction 6 (Godstone Interchange), where motorists can rejoin the M25 towards Gatwick Airport.
Motorists planning to travel through the affected area are advised to allow for extra journey time, considering potential delays and the need for alternative routes. National Highways encourages drivers to plan, consider rerouting if necessary, or postpone non-essential journeys until normal traffic conditions resume.
